Why study Higher Education online through OSU?

The master’s degree in Educational Leadership Studies, option in Higher Education is designed to prepare students for leadership positions at public and private colleges and universities. Students will study the complex issues facing higher education today, including administrative and organizational frameworks and the trends and needs of diverse student populations. Format

This degree program is our most flexible, offering courses 100% online (both asynchronous and synchronous), hybrid (in-person and online), and in-person. Courses are delivered throughCanvas , OSU’s online learning platform. The program follows a suggested two-year accelerated completion sequence in which students take two courses per semester (fall, spring and summer). Students can also complete in three years using a fall/spring sequence.

Curriculum

Core curriculum for this 36-hour program include classes such as:

  • Assessment Techniques for Higher Education & Student Affairs Professionals
  • Research to Practice in Higher Education & Student Affairs
  • Administrative Issues in Higher Education and Student Affairs
  • Critical Issues in Higher Education and Student Affairs

Students will also complete a capstone course, which includes a creative component developed throughout the program. In addition, students may earn the Hidden Populations Graduate Certificate without adding additional coursework or time to the M.S. degree.

Admissions

Applications are accepted throughout the year. Applicants are encouraged to submit application materials at least six weeks prior to the start of the semester.

To apply to the Educational Leadership Studies - option in Higher Education, MS program, complete the following:

  • Graduate College application
  • Transcripts from all previously attended institutions with a 3.0 minimum undergraduate GPA
  • Current resume/vita
  • Three letters of recommendation (At least two from faculty members is preferred)
  • Career objectives essay
  • Academic writing sample (optional)
  • Program faculty may request an interview with the applicant
