Get certified in Advanced Sports Medicine Concepts

A Graduate Certificate in Advanced Sports Medicine Concepts is earned after completing 12 hours of focused on-line, self-directed study. The goal of the advanced sports medicine concepts certificate program is to provide contemporary skills and knowledge to currently practicing physicians, physician assistants and athletic trainers.  It is intended to enhance current clinicians with best practices that provide sports medicine care to their respective communities.

Overview

Sports medicine is a constantly evolving area of medicine that requires the most up to date knowledge and skills to best treat patients.  This certificate will provide healthcare providers from a variety of disciplines (Athletic Training, Physician, Physician Assistant), who are or may be involved with healthcare delivery to team sports or athletics, with an in-depth overview of sports medicine utilizing contemporary evidence-based best practices.

 

Objectives include:

  • Prepare clinicians to provide patient-centered evidence-based medicine. 
  • Prepare clinicians to identify and implement current best practices statements.
  • Prepare clinicians to implement contemporary techniques in the evaluation and treatment of injuries and illnesses within sports medicine.

 

Coursework

Description: Advanced Sports Medicine Concepts (12 credit hours):

 

Required Courses (6 credit hours):

  • MAT 5712 Clinical Diagnosis and Therapeutic Interventions for the Lower Extremity
  • MAT 5722 Clinical Diagnosis and Therapeutic Interventions for the Upper Extremity
  • MAT 5732 Clinical Diagnosis and Therapeutic Interventions for the Head and Spine
  • MAT 5742 Clinical Diagnosis and Therapeutic Interventions for Non-Orthopedic Injuries
  • MAT 5752 Emergency Care in Sports Medicine
  • MAT 5762 Mental Health in Sports Medicine

 

Admissions Requirements and Deadlines

  • Completed online application for Fall or Spring (the department reviews applications on an ongoing basis as they are received).
  • Current licensed practitioner (AT, physician, PA).
  • Resume or CV
  • Statement of purpose describing your personal career goals and background, and a brief description of experience or qualifications in support of the application.
  • Skills, equipment and access for online course participation includes the capacity for independent learning, proficiency in Windows, Internet, e-mail and basic applications; multimedia computer and high-speed Internet access are necessary.
  • International applicants: coursework in the Advanced Sports Medicine Concepts certificate is online therefore, you will be able to remain in your home country for the duration of the certificate program.
  • $50.00 application fee (domestic).
