Get certified in building level leadership

This graduate certificate is designed for education professionals who already hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and seek to acquire the necessary skill set for building level school administration and/or Oklahoma Principals’ Licensure. 

Overview

In addition to preparing you for building level administration and/or Oklahoma Principals’ Licensure, this program provides the partial fulfillment of requirements for state certification in the preparation of building level leaders (Oklahoma Statutes, 70-6-189©) that focuses on school building level educational leadership competencies.

 

Successful completion of the certificate program requires 12 credit hours (four courses) of graduate-level coursework in educational leadership. Credit hours are transferable to additional graduate degree programs in school administration.

Coursework

The 12 credit hours for this certificate are offered 100-percent online. Courses are offered through Canvas, OSU's online learning platform. All courses are 8-week courses offered in an online, hybrid format. Eight-week courses typically meet by Zoom about four times per session. Students can complete this certificate independently or while also earning a Masters of Science in Educational Leadership. Students can complete the certificate in two semesters. Courses in the certificate are in partial fulfillment of requirements for recommendation for principal certification. 

 

Required (six credit hours):

  • EDLE 5813: Leadership Theory and Ethical Decision Making
  • EDLE 5953: Developing Educational Organizations

Elective (six credit hours - select two of the following):

  • EDLE 5253: The Principalship
  • EDLE 5723: Education Law
  • EDLE 5353: Special Topics in School Finance Policy
  • EDLE 5473: Supervision of Instruction
  • EDLE 5893: Field Studies Internship II

Admissions Requirements and Deadlines

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Applicants will be notified of admission status within four to six weeks of submission.

 

To apply for the program, submit the following:

  • Graduate College application
  • Transcripts from all previously attended institutions (undergraduate degree from an accredited university with a minimum 3.0 GPA required; admission with qualifications may be considered)
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Academic vita/resume
  • Career objective statement
