Graduate certificate in college teaching

This online graduate certificate is designed for community college and university faculty, including graduate assistants who have college teaching assignments, and adult educators who already hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree and seek to build capabilities for successful college teaching.

Overview

This program prepares you to develop and improve your knowledge, skills and capacities for successful college teaching. Learn to advance your teaching vision, philosophy and adaptability in a rapidly changing society at a range of higher education institutions.

 

Successful completion of this certificate program requires 12 credit hours (four courses) of graduate-level coursework in curriculum studies. Credit hours are transferable to additional graduate degree programs.

Coursework

Courses can be completed in one or multiple years, depending on your own pace. Practicum (in online or virtual formats), flexibly arranged with your advisor, is required for graduation.

  • CIED 5073: Pedagogical Research OR
  • CIED 6073: Advanced Pedagogical Research

Elective (9 credit hours - select three of the following):

  • CIED 5093: Curriculum Design
  • CIED 5183: Media Literacy Across the Curriculum
  • CIED 5623: Multicultural Diversity Issues in Curriculum
  • CIED 5823: Mindfulness, Curriculum and Teaching
  • CIED 6033: Analysis of Teaching
  • CIED 6040: Special Topics in College Curriculum and Teaching
  • CIED 6133: Theory to Practice in Education
  • EDTC 5503: Facilitating Online Learning
  • EPSY 5473: Psychology of Adult Learning
  • EPSY 5983: Instructional Effectiveness in Higher Education

 

Admissions Requirements and Deadlines

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Applicants will be notified of admission status within four to six weeks of submission.

 

To apply for the program, submit the following:

  • Graduate College application
  • Transcripts from all previously attended institutions (undergraduate degree from an accredited university with a minimum 3.0 GPA required; admission with qualifications may be considered)
  • Academic vita/resume
  • Two letters of professional recommendation
  • Personal goal statement (approx. 250 words)
