Why study Business Analytics and Data Science online through OSU?

The online MS in Business Analytics and Data Science (MS BAnDS) is a STEM designated program that trains those who are currently in the workforce to transition as analytics and data science professionals and tackle real-world challenges. In 2020, our program was listed 21st in the TFE Times ranking of Masters Programs in Business Analytics. We use state-of-the-art enterprise level analytics software from multiple vendors such as Alteryx, Azure, Power BI, Tableau, SAS®, Snowflake as well as open source software such as Google Colab, Python and R, which provide great advantages in the competitive job market.


The Spears School of Business offers online programs as an alternative way to earn a degree for working professionals. We believe all students should have access to high-quality, affordable education, regardless of their schedule or location. Online courses are available 24/7, and are designed with multimedia content and virtual activities to promote student collaboration.



For working professionals, earning a master’s degree in the STEM-designated MS BAnDS program online requires 33 credit hours(check our Plan of Study page for core course details, electives and software used in each core course). MS BAnDS graduates often pursue careers as:

  • Data scientists
  • Data/business analysts
  • Statistical analysts



  • GMAT or GRE are required with minimum recommended scores above 51st percentile in each of the test areas.
  • Work experience is considered during the application review process and is strongly encouraged. Those with five-plus years of relevant work experience may be allowed probationary admission without GRE or GMAT scores.
  • Fall application deadline, June 1.
  • Spring application deadline, November 1.
  • If you are unsure about committing to a full MS degree and want to first try out a few courses, we encourage you to start with Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics and Data Science. Once you complete the two core courses, you may transfer all of your credits to MS BAnDS degree.

Students enrolled in the Business Analytics and Data Science master's program will complete 33 credit hours during the course of their studies.
