Why study School Administration online through OSU?

The master’s degree in Educational Leadership Studies, option in School Administration is designed for professionals who hold a teaching certification and desire to become leaders in PK-12 education by completing degree and certification requirements for Principal Certification in Oklahoma. The program meets the needs of working adults through flexible, hybrid course offerings and a cohort model that encourages peer networking and collaboration. Our graduates go on to serve as educational leaders in urban, suburban and rural areas in Oklahoma and beyond. 

Format

This degree program is offered 100-percent online. Courses are delivered through Canvas, OSU’s online learning platform. The program follows an online, hybrid model with students taking both 8-week and 16-week courses each semester. Eight-week courses meet synchronously online about four times per semester.  Students can complete the degree in four semesters (fall, spring, summer, fall).

 

Curriculum

This 36-hour program utilizes Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC) standards to guide course development and improvement and is recognized by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Required core curriculum includes:

 

  • Leadership Theory & Ethical Decision Making
  • Developing Educational Organizations
  • The Principalship
  • Education Law
  • School Finance
  • Supervision of Instruction
  • Field Studies Internship 

Principal Certification

Complete your master’s degree and Principal Certification in as few as four semesters.

Students will also complete a portfolio (creative component) to exhibit competency in the ELCC standards. Courses are offered primarily online, with face-to-face meetings.

Admissions

Applications are accepted for enrollment each fall and spring semester:

  • March 15  Fall Priority | April 30  Fall Final
  • October 15 Spring Priority | December 1 — Spring Final 

To apply to the Educational Leadership Studies - option in School Administration, MS program, complete the following:

Student at graduation

  • Graduate College application
  • Transcripts from all previously attended institutions 
  • Current resume/vita
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Career objectives essay (one page, double spaced)
  • Critical issues essay (two-three pages, double spaced)
  • Interview: Program faculty may request an interview with the applicant. 

Additionally, all applicants must hold a valid Oklahoma standard classroom teaching certificate and have completed at least two years of classroom teaching experience upon completion of the program
