Why study Workforce and Adult Education online through OSU?

Recognizing that adult learners are the backbone of the U.S. economy, the Master of Science in Educational Leadership, Option in Workforce and Adult Education is designed for individuals who work with adult learners in workforce development efforts at all levels and in all settings. The program promotes sustainable, equitable economic growth and collaboration with workforce and economic developers, postsecondary educators, employers and industry groups, as well as and foundations and other mission-aligned organizations. Program graduates will be able to foster a culture of innovative, lifelong learning to help individuals and their communities thrive.  


Courses are offered fully online for maximum flexibility for working professionals. The 36 hours of online coursework is delivered through Canvas, OSU's online learning platform, and utilize Zoom meetings for peer-to-peer collaboration.

The 36-hour program includes a common core and emphasis Core, along with six credit hours of Research and Inquiry. Core classes include:

  • Leadership Theory and Ethical Decision Making
  • Development Educational Organizations
  • Foundations and Characteristics of Adult Learning
  • Administration and Evaluation of Workforce and Adult Education
  • Instructional Strategies for Adults



To apply to the Educational Leadership Studies - option in Workforce and Adult Education, MS program, complete the following:

•  OSU Graduate application, including transcripts
•  Typed goals statement (about 500 words) consistent with mission of workforce and adult education 

•  Current Resume (include a list of three references with contact information)

•  Three letters of reference
