Why study Educational Technology online through OSU?

The master’s degree in Educational Technology is designed to prepare students from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines in becoming highly qualified educational technologists, instructional technology specialists, instructional designers or workplace training specialists. Our graduates go on to professional roles in educational institutions, health care, non-profit organizations, tribal nations or corporations as instructional design specialists, program developers, online learning experts or software trainers and facilitators. 


This 100 percent online program is delivered through Canvas, OSU’s online learning platform. Most students take 4- or 8-week courses and complete their degree in 18 to 24 months. An accelerated completion option allows students to finish the program in as little as four semesters. Convenient course scheduling provides maximum flexibility for working professionals. 



This holistic degree integrates instructional design, online teaching, effects of technology on cognition and learning and design-based research with emerging technologies and creativity. The program requires 36 hours of coursework, including:

Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching requires no additional courses

PhD in Learning, Design and Technology also available

To apply to the Educational Technology - option in Educational Technology, MS program, complete the following: 

  • Graduate College application
  • Transcripts from all previously attended institutions (3.0 minimum undergraduate GPA required)
  • Current resume/vita
  • Statement of professional goals
  • Three letters of recommendation



Students enrolled in the Educational Technology master's program will complete 36 credit hours during the course of their studies. Cost estimates below are calculated based on 2021-2022 rates. Additional cost details and OSU’s tuition and fee estimator are available on the Bursar website.
