Why study elementary education online through OSU?
Earn your Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and be prepared to teach all
subjects for grades 1-8, including mathematics, science, reading/language arts and
social studies. This online undergraduate program offers a high-quality academic experience
and school-based connections. Upon degree completion, graduates are recommended to
the Oklahoma State Department of Education for full teacher certification and are
prepared to take certification exams in other states, if applicable. Our education
graduates are highly sought after by school districts and go on to work in a variety
of educational settings, fulfilling their passion to serve students.
This online degree program is delivered through Canvas, OSU’s online learning platform. Field experiences, including the student teaching
internship, require in-person classroom observations and interactions. Full-time enrollment
is encouraged, but not required. Generally, freshman students enrolled full time can
expect to complete their degree in four years, which includes student teaching during
the last semester. Students with transfer credit should be aware of unique major and
professional core course sequencing.
Comprehensive teacher certification degree requirements for the Elementary Education
Online program are identical to the on-campus requirement, leading to teacher certification
once university and state requirements are met.
Degree completion requires at least 124 credit hours, including general education
courses, college/departmental courses, major courses, professional core courses and
student teaching. After completing general education courses, students will begin
education preparatory program courses during their sophomore year. The student teaching experience is designated for spring semester of the student’s senior year and will ideally be
completed in the student’s local or neighboring community.
