Effective Teaching in Elementary Schools, Graduate Certificate — ONLINE
Get on the pathway for alternative certification to teach in elementary schools
Individuals seeking alternative teaching certification through the Oklahoma State
Department of Education can complete the necessary coursework to transition to permanent
licensure to teach grades 1-8, while also earning a graduate certificate from Oklahoma
State University. Our faculty will help you develop a strong pedagogical foundation
of research-based strategies to manage a classroom and teach elementary reading, math,
social studies and science. Students will work with the Oklahoma State Department
of Education to meet alternative certification requirements.
Successful completion of this certificate program requires 15 credit hours (five courses)
of graduate-level coursework in reading, classroom management, social studies and
science and mathematics education. Credit hours are transferable to additional graduate
degree programs.
This fully online program offers 16-week courses, along with year-long mentoring.
Online courses are delivered through Canvas, OSU's online learning platform. We facilitate peer-to-peer collaboration and community
buildingthrough both synchronous and asynchronous course formats. Synchronous courses are
delivered via Zoom during after-school hours one day per week. Faculty blend the synchronous
